Shoreline Challenge - Friday 3rd Sept 2021

Another great Shoreline Challenge race. A figure of eight course tested all the sailors sail and boat handling skills in a light to moderate breeze.

The prize presentation was accompanied by some refreshments - thanks Tommy and Zandra - they were much appreciated.

There were a number of contenders for the 'Golden Shackle' this year however Alex won it based on some creative kite flying and mark rounding. Luckily Alex there is no video footage!

LESC End to End Keelboat Race

A new longer distance race for the Keelboats was sailed on Friday, 27th August 2021. The race was the brianchild of Dave and Wendy involving starting at the club up to mark 3 and then to Lochearnhead round a turning buoy and back to the finish at the club. It was a tricky run down for competitors followed by a champage conditions beat back! Colin and Mandy won on handicap and were presented with the trophy made by local artist Hetty Williams who works out of the Goldfinch Gallery in Comrie. There was some post race chat & ribbing accompanied by some bubbly to mark the occassion. It was a great afternoon sail and if you would like to see more pics of the action look in the 2021 Picture Gallery by clicking on this link here.

Worthy winners Colin & Mandy who sailed a storming beat back from Lochearnhead!

Tree Protection works in August / Sept

Since the autumn last year a beaver, possibly two now, has been making itself at home at the club and has been munching on a variety of trees and bushes around the club grounds.

Nature Scotland have surveyed the damage and as a result painted 35 tree trunks with anti beaver paint and wired 3 others with mesh protection.  This will hopefully safeguard the remaining vunerable mature trees which are within range of the beavers.

It is great for the club to have enlisted their help as they are doing it for free - well done Ann!

Above is a picture of Mr or Mrs Beaver on the riverbank with some of the evidence from their munching in the background.  Excellant pic Frank from your nature cam!

LESC Job List 2021

We haven't had a formal work party this year due to Covid restrictions. There are however a number of jobs we need to complete and these are listed below. If you can come prepared to tackle one (or two!) that would be great.

First Race of the season on Saturday, 29th May 2021 - Yippee!

It was great to see the racing get underway after a delayed start to the season.  Perfect conditions for a first race though in rather fluky airs.

Looking forward to seeing lots more activity on the water in the coming weeks.

Training Week Information 2021

Loch Earn Sailing Club will host our annual Training week from Monday 12th to Friday 16th July.

Unfortunately, due to the impact of Covid our 2021 event cannot be exactly the same as in previous years.

We will have fewer boats than usual, limiting class sizes across sailing levels and overall numbers. We cannot provide the usual midweek social buffet/BBQ and we may not be able to provide changing facilities and therefore will ask that participants arrive and leave in their sailing gear. Of course, LESC will adhere strictly to distancing and cleaning requirements and we ask for full cooperation from all participants in this.

We cannot currently guarantee camping availability; please talk to us if this is essential to your participation.

LESC reserve the right to cancel Training Week 2021 – although we would only do so as an unforeseen last resort. For this reason, we would not collect fees before 25th June. If we do have to cancel unexpectedly, LESC’s only liability is to refund fees paid.

Despite the changes we must make for this year, some things will stay the same! We will still offer a week of excellent sailing instruction, fun both on and off the water and an opportunity to attain fully accredited RYA sailing qualifications.

Because of the limited numbers, in the first instance, LESC members will be given preference.  The course will be opened to applicants outside of the club from 30th May.
