Letter from the Sailing Secretary, September 2011

As we are now into September, I’d like to take this chance to highlight what’s going on this month. There is a full programme of racing, and its worth making the most of it while the sun is still shining. (Small print – sunshine has been ordered but is not guaranteed!)

Sat 3rd and Sunday 4th September. RNLI Charity Handicap race. It’s one of LESC’s big weekends and its well worth making time to participate. There will be RNLI merchandising to browse through, and its all for a good cause. It would be great to have a big turnout this year. Starts are from 2 pm on Saturday and 11 am on the Sunday.

Sat 10th & Sun 11th we are back to 1 race per day for the September Dinghy and cruiser series. Starts begin at 3pm on Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday. There is often bounce racing and the opportunity to cruise or practice too. And the customary reminder to those whose turn it is to do race support – Saturday Andrew Snowball, Brian Finnie, Mark Gilmour. Sunday Gordon McGeorge, Graeme Duncan, Martin Brown

Sat 17th & Sun 18th August More series racing On race duty; Saturday Bruce Paterson, Graham Donaldson, Martin Cameron. Sunday Andrew McCann, Graham McCubbin, Neil Morris

We will also be joined by the Challenger travellers this weekend, so there will be a good buzz about the club.

Sat 24th & Sun 25th The final fling. Need I say more? Our final, not to be missed, regatta for 2011. The racing will be as competitive as ever, and it’s a good weekend socially too.

We have had good turnouts from our various fleets this year. I hope we can see as many as possible at our September events to set the seal on our season. As ever, if you have any queries or concerns about getting on the water, your committee and the fleet captains will do their best to help.

Ps for those on race duties, we do rely on you to enable the races to run. If you can’t manage your allocated day, please remember to arrange a swap.
