Brooks MacDonald Brown Cup 2010
Major sponsors Brooks MacDonald with others, including Go Ape, Scottish Sailing.com, aitkensport.co.uk and gforcesailing.com all making significant contributions, collectively enabled a fabulous three days sailing at Loch Earn Sailing Club from Saturday June 12th through to Monday June 14th.
Race training took place on the Saturday and Sunday with the input, on the water, from some outstanding coaches. Groups were either introduced to, or prior learning re-inforced, for some of the key racing skills - starting, rounding windward and leeward marks, calling for water etc.
Monday's weather continued in much the same vein as the weekend - light breezes and generally overcast skies - not unpleasant!
Three races were run for the Brown Cup itself on the Monday, with a 37 boat Topper fleet and a 31 boat handicap fleet iety of boats from Optimists to an RS600. Within this fleet was a "sub-fleet" of 14 Lasers/Radials so racing was always going to be close for those boats.
Lomond School ran out winners of the Brown Cup itself, their team of four boats scoring 1st, 3rd and 4th in the handicap fleet whilst their entrant in the Topper fleet came first. Impressive result! 1st Primary Schools sailor was Rory Harper from Kilearn Primary School in his Optimist with an excellent 17th overall.
Apart from the individual prizes, there were spot prizes awarded for notable feats on the water.
A great day: thanks to the sponsors, the members and their wives who worked tirelessly in the kitchen, keeping the calries coming! Thanks also to the coaches and the RIB drivers. None of this could have happened without ALL these folk contributing.
